2019-07-10vlib: Replace timer in CLI with an event processChris Luke1-16/+140
The CLI code, when it accepts a socket connection, ran a timer for each session that would ensure the CLI session was started should the TELNET negotiation stage fail to complete. It has since transpired that this is unsafe; the timer is capable of firing in critical sections, during a spinlock, and since we peform non-trivial things in the handler it can cause a deadlock. This was reported recently in VPP-1711 but a search of history suggests this may also be (one of) the causes in VPP-1413. This change replaces that method with an event-driven process. The process is created when the first socket connection is accepted. When new connections are created the process is sent an event to register the new session in a list. That event process has a loop that evaluates the list of oustanding sessions and if a deadline expires, their session is started if it has not been already, and then removed from the list. If we have pending sessions then the loop waits on a timer or an event; if there are no sessions it waits on events only. This fixes two leaks in registering errors in the stats segment. - The error name created by vlib_register_errors() was not freed. - Duplicate error names (when interface readded) was added to the vector. 2019-06-04sort worker-thread init functions in advanceDave Barach5-12/+71
Otherwise, all N worker threads try to sort the list at the same time: a good way to have a bad day. This approach performs *far* better than maintaing order by adding a spin-lock. By direct measurement w/ elog + g2: 11 threads execute the per-thread init function list in 22us, vs. 50ms with a CLIB_PAUSE() enabled spin-lock. Maintain the MAINTAINERS file. Removed src/plugins/*.am listings. Added a couple of plugins. Add vlib_process_create (vlib_main_t *vm, char *name, vlib_node_function_t *f, u32 log2_n_stack_bytes); /** @brief Create a vlib process * @param vm &vlib_global_main * @param f the process node function * @param log2_n_stack_bytes size of the process stack, defaults to 16K * @return newly-create node index * @warning call only on the main thread. Barrier sync required. */ This function makes it easy to spin up periodic processes when features are enabled for the first time. That coding pattern is highly recommended. Update the emacs-lisp plugin generator to use vlib_process_create, instead of generating static periodic process nodes. 2019-05-17Add a debug-CLI leak-checkerDave Barach1-0/+25
leak-check { <any-debug-cli-command-and-args> } Hint: "set term history off" or you'll have to sort through a bunch of bogus leaks related to the debug cli history mechanism. Cleaned up a set of reported leaks in the "show interface" command. At some point, we thought about making a per-thread vlib_mains vector, but we never did that. Several interface-related CLI's maintained local static cache vectors. Not a bad idea, but not useful as things shook out. Removed the static vectors. 2019-05-17Fix 'terminal history off' crasherChris Luke1-7/+14
- 'set terminal history off' or '... limit 0' has an incorrect terminal condition and tries to vec_delete one-too-many times causing a crash. - Changing >= to > fixes this. - In any case, a single vec_delete is more efficient, so do that instead. 2019-05-16init / exit function orderingDave Barach8-60/+577
The vlib init function subsystem now supports a mix of procedural and formally-specified ordering constraints. We should eliminate procedural knowledge wherever possible. The following schemes are *roughly* equivalent: static clib_error_t *init_runs_first (vlib_main_t *vm) { clib_error_t *error; ... do some stuff... if ((error = vlib_call_init_function (init_runs_next))) return error; ... } VLIB_INIT_FUNCTION (init_runs_first); and static clib_error_t *init_runs_first (vlib_main_t *vm) { ... do some stuff... } VLIB_INIT_FUNCTION (init_runs_first) = { .runs_before = VLIB_INITS("init_runs_next"), }; The first form will [most likely] call "init_runs_next" on the spot. The second form means that "init_runs_first" runs before "init_runs_next," possibly much earlier in the sequence. Please DO NOT construct sets of init functions where A before B actually means A *right before* B. It's not necessary - simply combine A and B - and it leads to hugely annoying debugging exercises when trying to switch from ad-hoc procedural ordering constraints to formal ordering constraints. 2019-03-06vmbus: fix bug that breaks multiple netvsc vdevsMatthew Smith1-2/+2
VPP supports two DPDK drivers for managing netvsc devices on Azure/Hyper-V. The new netvsc PMD looks a lot like other PCI-based PMDs but it requires recently added kernel support (>=4.17). The older vdev_netvsc is an abstraction that manages the mlx4 VF and tap device underlying the netvsc interface using the failsafe PMD. Distros with older kernels (e.g. RHEL/CentOS 7.x) have to use vdev_netvsc. At startup, netvsc devices are processed and an attempt is made to initialize them for management by the netvsc PMD. If that fails, then vlib_vmbus_bind_to_uio() returns early and the device can be initialized for management by vdev_netvsc. The operation that is supposed to fail if the netvsc PMD cannot be used is registration of the netvsc device type ID with the uio_hv_generic driver. This operation is attempted exactly once so it does not fail for netvsc devices processed after the first one and they end up in a state where they cannot be initialized for use by vdev_netvsc. Only unset uio_new_id_needed if uio_hv_generic registration succeeds. Change-Id: I6be925d422b87ed24e0f4611304cc3a6b07a34fd Signed-off-by: Matthew Smith <mgsmith@netgate.com>
